Ben Quad have a goofy name, which means — you guessed it — they’re a modern day emo rock band. But substance overrules everything, and the Oklahoma rockers beat the Star Wars nerd allegations with a thrash math burner on “You’ll Get Nothing and Like It”, their first single since inking on with Pure Noise Records. You can’t stress enough that they are serious business, and don’t let their namesake origins dissuade you otherwise. Unhinged full-throated screaming? Check. Crash-course post-hardcore riffs diving right through an American Football house? Check. All of that leading into a brutal heart-on-their-sleeve anthem to drum up their emotive theatrics to a whole new level? Check, check and check. “Everything I need from you is everything you take from me.” They’re giving it their all, and they’re leaving you with nothing to laugh about.
