Wild Pink – “Sprinter Brain”

When I saw Wild Pink in a quaint Western Massachusetts theater two autumns ago, their pedal steel guitarist was out sick. Disappointing? To an extent, yes, because during that time, the NYC indie rockers were very much in their alt-country bag in support of their latest effort, ILYSM. What I didn’t know back then is that what I was experiencing was more like a preview of the shape of Wild Pink to come. “Sprinter Brain”, the latest offering from Dulling the Horns, is an exhilarating dash of heartland rock that let’s their electricity roll from Boston to Bath, merging borealis brass and driving guitars down the same highway as the wheels pop off the ride. “This song is kind of about learning how to deal with your problems and not catastrophizing. Just trying to be more realistic and objective when times get stressful,” John Ross said of its backstory. Accounting for the aforementioned tale and any other tour debacles an artist like them might encounter out there on the open road, they’ve learned how to adapt with ease.

Wild Pink’s Dulling the Horns will be released October 4th on Fire Talk.
