Joining their fellow Omaha scene Saddle Creek originals in this upcoming fall’s calendar highlights are Cursive, venerable indie rock darlings of emo subversion, who on their 10th album, Devourer, get a new lease on their career life by joining the Run Cover Records roster. The reinvigoration can be felt on the album’s early highlight and opener, “Botch Job.” Thrashing by Cursive standards with its scruffy riffs whipping around brain-swirling synthesizers, this listen racks the noggin in signature existentialist quiver fashion. “This is not / What I thought / This life was gonna look like,” Tim Kasher loathingly grumbles in its chorus. It’s a good look on them nonetheless all these years on.
