Conor Oberst spent enough years away from releasing any new Bright Eyes material that now, you better have learned not to take anything for granted which he puts out under his most beloved indie rock moniker. Five Dices, All Threes, the second post-hiatus effort since Oberst returned with his heavy-sighed crew back in 2020 with Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was, is shaping up to be autumn comfort food already with all of the bells and whistles. Its latest preview, “Rainbow Overpass”, is where it really begins taking off, however, in conjuring spirits of punk rock into their barroom comradery, inviting So So Glo’s Alex Orange Drink into the mixer. They’re not slowing down. They’re speeding up, and keeping the thrill of hearing them as alive (or live, when they embark on an extensive world tour beginning later this year…) as ever.
