It takes a certain level of wordsmith tact to rattle off a string of non sequiturs and still be able to convince the world that you’re some kind profound wordsmith. MJ might just have that gift in his pen if “Joker Lips” is any measure of that. Like, what exactly do you mean when you’re singing, “Draining cum from hotel showers / Hoping for the hours / To pass a little faster,” my dude? And has any lapsed Catholic ever actually heard the expression, “Every Catholic knows he could’ve been pope”? But maybe when you tie it all into Lenderman’s charmingly lethargic slacker croon where he admits to finding it hard to put the right things into words heaped onto a pile of alt-country guitar noodles fit for a sunset, it’s up to us the untangle what it all means while staring at the sky anyhow…
