“I’VE BEEN EVIL”, the latest highlight off Spirit of the Beehive’s new album, YOU’LL HAVE HAVE TO LOSE SOMETHING, arrives in tandem with a mega glitched out, mostly instrumental interstitial, “SOMETHING’S ENDING”. The Philly experimental pop band have been whiplashing us back and forth between these two (three? four? exponential?) sides of the coin their sound since last year’s i’m so lucky EP, with the latter listen being more inebriated, but then suddenly swerving us with something that tallies up to cohesion by their own definition. And so it’s a head spin when the trio deliver a listen that enters scene with neon new wave guitar-driven energy that could have existed in the Talk Talk catalog in some alternative form of the universe, but the twist in the plot is the further down the road they get, layer upon layer of more of that heat points to something more dangerous to touch than what its surface initially presents.
Spirit of the Beehive’s YOU’LL HAVE TO LOSE SOMETHING will be releasde August 23rd on Saddle Creek.
