Allegra Krieger shows a bleak portrait of the real world juxtaposed against one that exists as ignorance is bliss on “Into Eternity”. Trash is spiraling in the air while a little black dog runs up the street. Police sirens blare, so she just turns up the radio to drown them out. A homeless woman sleep on the corner of a street while children pass by laughing. She visits her favorite places, but then catches a glimpse of an old haunt that reminds her of the Thanksgiving where her ex’s friend blew his head off with a shotgun. In Krieger’s world, it’s as if she’s the only who can see both of them, and having that kind of sixth sense weighs down on her heavily. That comes through the listen’s uneasiness felt through seasick fingerpicks and a low, reverberating bassline, one part PJ Harvey, and one part Shellac without the noise — unless you count what’s inside her head. Even when she attempts to take in the good moments as a butterfly floats through the sky, it all comes crashing down apocalyptically. “Just a flash of color, like everything else, falling into place in a timeline / That we walk into eternity, under nukes, and trees and changing skylines.”
Allegra Krieger’s Art of the Unseen Infinity Machine will be released September 13th on Double Double Whammy.
