Sonagi totally get that screamo is the art of throwing every emotion into the heaviest of sounds, and barreling through with it like a torrential storm. The bleakest of existentialist thinking proved to be an apt feeding frenzy for the Philly band to display this as a jumping off point with their 2022 debut full-length, Precedent. They continue to go to battle with the individual and internally fraught on “Rain Shadow”, the first single from their forthcoming EP (and first for Touché Amoré frontman Jeremy Bolm’s Secret Voice label,) Everything Is Longing. This is an onslaught firmly entwining the band into decades of deep screamo roots as part of the scene’s next gen springing forth through a crush of devastation, melodic tears in the cosmic fabric, and vocalist Ryann Slauson’s lyrics screaming out prose-like diatribes aimed at the void, taking on suffering and the embracing of it. “Fuck the air / In your lungs,” they shout at one point. Sonagi’s storm takes the wind completely out of you.
