Slumped are a heavy pop-rock band who don’t require much thinking, and I mean that in the best way. Straight out of the Bay Area, their sound is a sticky, sun-melted amalgamation of Pinkerton, ’90s alternative shlock rock, Tony Molina-perfected power-pop, grunge-gaze, and whatever hardcore adjacencies are left to work with out there in the scene. This is to say, they’re the perfect compliment to the pit for a fun break. The band, led by Nathaniel “Nate” Punty (also of Spiritual Cramp guitarist lore,) will be releasing their debut album, Last Day On Earth, this August, and right now, its latest single “Trippin” is hitting all the post-Fourth summer vibes just right with its dirtbag slacker aesthetics and callbacks to yesteryear cultures with a big riffed pop hook and a buzzy synthesizer for windows-down cruising or just dazing out at the clouds on the grass. “I can’t stop trippin’ about the time / You were a friend of mine,” Punty sings in its chorus. Yeah, things were simpler then, and it’s great to have a jam like this to remind us of that…
