The first time I saw GEL, they were up close and personal opening for CEREMONY in a small venue in Worcester, Mass several months ahead of releasing last year’s listmaking debut full-length, Only Constant. The next time I saw them, I was stuck in the back of massive field pit at last July’s Sound & Fury fest where they took to the stage like headliners. This is to say, the Jersey band’s world and listenerbase has only gotten bigger since their breakthrough, and they’re sounding it, too, on “Persona”, the latest preview and title track off their forthcoming EP. This is bold font, shut-the-fuck-and-listen big stage hardcore where any remaining cracks from earlier work has been filled in with cement. GEL are going to leverage that heavy weight easily and pile it all onto the nefarious until they scream submission. “You fucking reek of conceit / Desperately you seek in vein / Pandering for selfish gain / Pedestrian with no claim / You burn yourself at the stake,” Sami Kaiser shoves through the adversary. Stay out of their way…
