SPEED – “DON’T NEED”

Everything SPEED does is with a purpose, and the fast and the furious of it all is coming very quickly at us when the Sydney hardcore band release their hotly anticipated debut full-length, ONLY ONE MODE, early next month. “DON’T NEED”, the album’s final preview, completes something of a trilogy in intent being called out in its rollout, with “REAL LIFE LOVE” and “THE FIRST TEST” laying heavy to the foundation of what the band can live with and will overcome to get that. This one puts to waste what’s not welcome in their lives. “Don’t need pretending / I just can’t relate / Me and mine / You and I / We ain’t the same!,” Jem Siaw shouts. A crisp drill motion of riffs moves in anthem with the aggression, pulverizing every ounce of bad energy standing between them, while carefully crafted details like the echo harmonizing the chant behind “I give it all away!” and a spoken word interlude enlightening its final moments firmly establishes SPEED as a scene spiritual movement on their own path of progression.
