High Vis may hail from London, but that dour, politically sidewinding storm bellowing through their sound is very much of a cobblestoned Manchester influence of the Fall, Oasis, the Smiths, and the Stone Roses before them through a post-hardcore headcharge. It’s not just for the aesthetics either. There’s an intentional bite in clamping social commentaries down into heavily melodic hooks that in turn, compounds both sides’ impact. “Mob DLA”, their latest single, emphasizes the codependent nature of this in their craft, doubling down on verse specificities and big chorus structures to draw attention to the public assistance crisis that’s wreaking havoc on lives throughout the UK while a disparity of wealth grows in favor of those in power. “Is the price of life too much to bear? / If you can’t see it, is it not there?,” vocalist Graham Sayle’s hurls into the elected’s direction. “They owe you more than a fucking living! / We owe you more!” That’s the sonic power behind High Vis’ mob mentality which exists to bring down these corrupt power structures.
High Vis’ “Mob DLA” single is available now on Dais Records.
