As the second track and latest preview from their forthcoming album, Macro, Brijean’s “Euphoric Avenue” is something of a red herring in title, or perhaps it’s their way of challenging us to alter our perspectives of what euphoria feels and sounds like. That might certainly be the case, with the experimental psychedelic dance-pop duo of vocalist and percussionist Brijean Murphy and multi-instrumentalist and producer Doug Stuart having mostly focused their hypnotic blend of kinetic energy into working out daily anxieties and rollercoastering emotions thus far. Instead, “Euphoric Avenue” saunters through like a slowed, dazed fade into view. A train ride blurs the surrounding world back further. “Time moves so fast,” Murphy coos, voice aflutter over a florid composition of baroque pop as the screen widens as imagination bubbles expand. “Let’s go / Try something new.” This thought of escaping anywhere else is a rush in itself, even if the destination lives solely in mind at that moment.
