“Spilling Ink” is a picture perfect example of scene bleed. As the four-piece of vocalist and guitarist Brendan Reid Dyer, bassist Yarden Erez, drummer Conner Frankel, and guitarist Nico Moreta, MILLY are the sort of alternative et. al rocker you’d easily squeeze into a lineup featuring hardcore, shoegaze, indie rock and emo artists, and they’d fit right in with any corner of them (in fact, they’ve just been tapped to open for OGs of that path, Basement, on their U.S. reunion tour as well as Fiddlehead’s east coast summer jaunt…) It’s a redundant topic of discourse, as there’s already plenty of attempts at stylistic crossover already happening as is, but the latest single from the Los Angeles band’s forthcoming sophomore effort, Your Own Becoming, proves it’s point well that it all works when mixed together. Dyer’s clean vocals wane impressionistic like a next-gen Jeremy Enigk through lines and patterns, and a summer lost. A touch of crunch-coating over melodic hardcore electricity zooms across the canvas. MILLY is putting it all together in frame that the greater picture of their sound makes the most sense with whatever perspective you give it.
