Lust will pull you under. Of all the vices, it’s the one that can seduce both the mind and body, and take it somewhere into a deep unknown. At some point, you may lose all control of your inhibitions. Perhaps this is why it’s the vice which blurs so seamlessly into pleasure, making it all the more easy to release yourself to. Swallowed in this emotion wholly by Glixen, “lust” — the first preview from the Phoenix nü-gazers’ forthcoming second EP — is that certain something which detaches your senses from the rest of the outside physical world. “Over and over, over and over again / I’m so caught up,” vocalist Aislinn Ritchie sings. “You can hold me down / Softly just for me.” Riffs of feedback crash atop of one another with as much repetition. Direction is made woozy, though it’s entirely in blissed sensation. The heaviness of the melody puts only carnal desires of touch and ecstasy into focus — even if everything surrounding them is lost in the halo.
Glixen’s “lust” single is available now.
