It sounds like if One Step Closer are going to lean harder into their emotions than ever with their forthcoming sophomore effort, All You Embrace, they’re going to do so with all of their hearts into it. “Giant’s Despair”, it’s second single, has all of it gushing out. By all definitions of the Wilkes-Barre band (post-hardcore, emo, pop-punk, as well as any new flickers of the alternative rock cannon explored here…,) this one marks a slowburn to explosion point. Vocalist Ryan Savitski comes clean in painting his deep well of regrets as guitarists Ross Thompson and Colman O’Brien move through the scenery with his realizations. Inserting an anthem into hardcore almost always guarantees delivering all of the feels, but the way they transcend the breakdown for a epiphanic storm of horns? That’s taking it to a next level when you’re on your way out…
