“Dis(re)member” is the restoration of post-hardcore and metalcore’s millennial age glory with all its guts on display. This comes as no surprise to these pages considering its creators, Excide, sold listeners on their legit status as being the silver bullets of the sound with their standout 2022 debut full-length, Deliberate Revolver. As one half of Humdinger, their latest dual single and first since inking on with SharpTone Records, the Carolina outfit of vocalist Tyler Washington, guitarists Gage Lanza and Gill Gonzalez, bassist Jake Paris, and drummer Caleb Hogue really make you miss those anomaly hits of the alternative rock dial heyday where bands like Cave In, Far, and Quicksand snuck their heads in momentarily, even if Excide’s end game is dismember them. Looking at today’s heavy music landscape, very few bands in the scene can convincingly pull off Washington’s exorcistic, clean grunge growl while polishing up a metalcore hook in a way that keeps its purest elements in tact without pastiche. There’s no need to get hung up on nostalgia here, as Excide have picked up hardcore’s major label era limbs and are running hard with them here into its future.
