“krillin” is a showcase of the modern Philly underground rock scene. By inviting perceptive songwriter Greg Mendez and the heavily melted psychedelic pop of SUN ORGAN’s Buzz Jordan into the room alongside They Are Gutting A Body of Water’s shoegaze arctangents, the listen by all measures reveals itself as one of the straighter lines in sound to stem from the creative path of Doug Dulgarian. At least vaguely. Bleared in blown out distortion and thick feedback careening in fast swells, it leaves lyrics mostly submersed like brain fog. When you’re able to pick out a word in the murk, they peak out with good vibes attached nonetheless by way of Mendez’s harmonious sweetness and a sonic palette of warmer hues painted by Jordan’s fingerprints.
