The very SEO-unfriendly duo O. were among the most buzz-worthy breakthroughs last year following the release of their highlight promising extended play, SLICE. The London-based Speedy Wunderground scene act comprised of baritone saxophonist Joe Henwood and drummer Tash Keary fully plug into creating a chaotic, free-wheeling experimental noise-rock-jazz amalgamation akin to DIY scene legends Lightning Bolt and more recently, fellow countrymen and tourmates, black midi, with that super charged-up currency continuing to flow through the spin cycle of “Green Shirt”, the lead single from their forthcoming debut full-length, WeirdOs. As the band astutely describes it, the listen is “a short rock/metal rinse out” named after Tash’s favorite green flannel shirt, lost several times over, before being eaten by a dog. Typically, pull quotes don’t always tell the whole story of a listen, but in this sense, the words speak for the sound itself, as the pair’s distortion art of drums, guitar amps, and a squiggling, bass-heavy sax coexist within the same plane of destruction.
O.’s WeirdOs will be released June 21st on Speedy Wunderground.
