Kim Gordon – “I’m A Man”

“BYE BYE” may have taken on a viral life of its own as an accidental checklist for your assist on your way out the door, but if you’re relating to any of the descriptors Kim Gordon taps into on “I’m A Man”, the latest offering from her new album, The Collective, you may want to check yourself. “Pass me a black napkin please / Dropped out of college, don’t have a degree / And I can’t get a date / It’s not my fault!,” the former Sonic Youth co-founder slips into heel character form, pairing toxic masculinity tropes with an abrasive industrial shutter beneath it, trying to pull you down with it. “And I’m just a fucking slob / You got your Audi / It’s not my fault!” The fact he could be anyone you know makes it all the more terrifying.
