One way to look at Water From Your Eyes’ list-topping 2023 album, Everyone’s Crushed, is that it sonically compiles the decay of society under the weight of capitalism. “Out There”, one of the album’s many highlights, is one of the more minimalistic yet faceted listens from their album to isolate this idea. In it, Rachel Browne sing the words, “She’s drowning in people” among other fleeting physical deconstructions as liquid percussion and electric particle matter seep further into every direction of their limbs. The music video for the track, directed by Sophia Feuer and Tyler Macri, brings these thoughts to the screen, finding Browne and bandmate Nate Amos in a decrepit shopping center where humanity’s abandonment of what once was seen of something of value in our material world begins to fall apart. It seems as though the natural elements surrounding them are the only ones left to contend with the fallout, with the realization: we are the Earth’s trash.
