As Bullion, songwriter and producer Nathan Jenkins has recorded with an impressive list of future-minded pop and indie makers, including Carly Rae Jepsen, Nilüfer Yanya, Avalon Emerson & The Charm, and Westerman. “Rare”, our first glimpse from his forthcoming own album, Affection, is proof that his own arm under his own name is just as powerful. The listen hears CRJ returning the favor in an understated way that doesn’t overshadow Jenkins’ own presentation, stylishly designed within the soft contours of synth-pop and emotions blushing beneath its surface. We don’t hear enough of this form of indie-pop these days where an understated finesse goes a long way in pulling you into its emotion, which is what makes “Rare” just that.
