If the phrase “just wishing your life away” were in need of an update to reflect this state in time, then Powerwasher’s “Same Time / Same Channel” would be it. The second highlight from the Baltimore post-hardcore band’s forthcoming sophomore effort, Everyone Laughs, brain drains itself into the oncoming void while chewing down hard on our culture’s wasteland pastimes. “I’m watching the end of my life / I’ve got front row seats to what seems to be the end of times,” vocals shout with a melodic hardcore intensity through a clusterfuck of anxiously wired post-punk guitars and new wave circuits, fitting of the content overload that has managed to mash genre lines together at an accelerated rate. “Maybe I’ll watch that film you recommended / But I’ll probably lay in bed staring through my phone.” Self-aware to our new reality, Powerwasher know every minute holed up inside a screen is a second stolen off their IRL timeline.
Powerwasher’s Everyone Laughs will be released March 8th on Strange View Records.
