“We realized we’d never really fucked with pop punk, and we thought, this is something that isn’t going to be immediately recognizable as cool,” says Pissed Jeans vocalist Matt Korvette of the band’s forthcoming album, Half Divorced. If that acknowledgement makes you groan at the thought of another noisy rock and post-hardcore band going the way of making “adjacent” music, the effort’s lead single “Moving On” will have you bowling over otherwise. The Philadelphia punk band’s aggression doesn’t rest at bay at any point in its rousing energy, piling weight on like brick over brick with every build of momentum. The hooks here lay you out like literal punch to the face as much as they do wield you into its chorus, with Korvette — now in his very divorced era — ensuring life’s beatings land perfectly in place.
