“Stuck In A Dream” almost didn’t happen, and for that reason, it’s not to be taken for granted that Gouge Away are still kicking a world of bullshit out of the way for us. As the second preview from the band’s newly-announced third album and return from an almost-band grave given the pandemic put the band on an indeterminate pause, the listen memory unlocks the formerly Floridian post-hardcore band’s feral nature in loud living color, with vocalist Christina Michelle tearing through the fabric of our modern day with a fight. “Clouds are not as soft as they seem / Stars always glisten the same / Stuck / Stuck / Stuck / Stuck / Stuck in a dream,” she shouts and screams. There’s just one catch: there’s no waking up from this reality.
