Laura Jane Grace – “Cuffing Season”

“Cuffing Season”, the third preview from Laura Jane Grace’s new solo effort, Holy In My Head, arrives at a particularly exciting time in the Against Me! frontwoman’s life. She’ll no longer be in need of reaching for a warm body during the coldest months in this singles hellscape, as Grace recently wed comedic content creator Paris Campbell. But the story here is how Grace got there. If there’s any curse word-laden wisdom to be shared in this stripped folk-punk soliloquy, it’s that allowing yourself to be vulnerable and taking risks with your heart get yours further than the regret of not trying at all. “Let go the fear you may fall apart / You don’t have to like the truth to know it’s worth the cost,” she sings. A bare-boned listen like this is surely a more realistic portrait of how the world of connection really works than swiping into the void during the online dating Superbowl…
