With as much emotional substance behind it as it carries in style, a dream-pop never-ending can be heard moving through the pooling wavelengths of “Perfect Blue”. As the first single from the self-titled debut EP from the mercurial Bay Area and Central Valley band Still Ruins, the trio of Frankie Soto, Jose Medina, and Cyrus VandenBerghe are an iridescent, romantic foil to today’s overwashed ‘gaze. Soto’s balladeering vocals haunt a memory graveyard while he, Medina, and VandenBerghe bring those emotions vividly into the listen’s forefront idiosyncratically in culling abstractions of gothic pop and rock through a perfect prism where their debonnaire rendering of the human heart longs far beyond the point of where the physical world can wander. The energy of their aura surpasses timelines and reaches the spiritual realm nonetheless.
