If the day ever comes where we are having a conversation about indie rock in most purest form, then the craft of Mary Timony needs to be a part of it. Be it in her form as the leader of Helium, Ex-Hex, or under her own accord, Timony’s understanding of merging idiosyncratic guitar rock with a melodic-knotted twist has made her songwriting one of the most consistent bodies for three decades now. “Dominoes”, the first preview from her first solo effort in 15 years, Untame the Tiger, is in in line with this thought. Lyrically, the listen finds Timony all the more wiser, though she’s still very pulling her energy from life’s tribulations. Acoustic guitars and a bass line trepidation buckles under the weight of what becomes of a hunch triggering power-pop springs from the listen’s wayside. Everything tumbles forward with it, and Timony just rolls with it.
