“Drive All Night” makes for an essential late December vibe. In the dead cold of this holiday season and the frigid air swirling around its glow, the sound of Joyer’s sedated slowcore with its lyrical sunshine for nighttime listening makes for a sonic hearth to either soundtrack becoming wallpaper at a snapshot gathering or just curling up cozy in its company beneath a fuzzy blanket all by yourself. The Brooklyn-and-Boston-based duo of Nick and Shane Sullivan’s realization of texturizing the minimalist, sleepy sounds explored on 2020’s Sun Into Flies and 2021’s Perfect Gray with crackling guitar and mellow radiating harmonies also taps into that Galaxie 500 brain of the moment, done better than most than whatever the algorithm’s feeding your For You page.
