To hear Madeline Link sing of having to restart is a bit of a comical paradox coming from the Toronto songwriter’s mouth, given that her band PACKS has been churning out consistency through their indica rock reflections these past few years since dropping their 2021 debut LP, Take the Cake, and this past year’s sophomore follow-up, Crispy Crunchy Nothing. “Paige Machine”, an early highlight from her forthcoming third full-length effort, Melt the Honey, takes currency of the value of change and wonders if the juice is the worth the squeeze. “It’ll only work once / Because you took it apart / In this configuration, fucked up / Gotta restart,” she sings over a slow motion swirl of dazed pedal steel and thistle that eventually leads her back full circle. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it goes the saying, and in PACKS case, they’re doing their most by staying the course.
PACKS’ Melt the Honey will be released January 19th on Fire Talk.
