Sweet Pill – “Chewed Up”

In 2023, Sweet Pill got their wish in getting that crucial IRL Paramore co-sign following the release of last year’s breakthrough debut, Where the Heart Is, and they’re ready to make the most of that praise momentum heading into the New Year. First up, the emotive Philly math-core band have new EP on the way on a new label home at Hopeless Records when they release, Starchild. Sharing its same name with an included single released earlier this year, its latest preview, “Chewed Up”, is really where the five-piece bite down harder on their emotions, with vocalists Zayna Youssef and guitarist Sean McCall trading barbs with their own reflections. “Oh god, I hate her / That girl in the mirror / She moves the way I do / A half-assed version of the truth.” Their headspace is on a brink, and you can really feel how Sweet Pill are embracing the grind that comes with pushing up against it.

Sweet Pill’s Starchild will be released March 15th on Hopeless Records.
