Lana Del Rey – “Take Me Home, Country Roads” (John Denver Cover)

In a week which featured Tori Amos putting her own uncanny touch on Kendrick, it ends with Lana leading us down a path more familiar of the “Country Roads” John Denver originally penned to song back in 1971. Lana, who herself stans the Denver cannon and whom she namechecks on “The Grants” off this year’s excellent Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd, introduces his version of small town Americana to a new generation here reverently yet under her own warm breath. Elsewhere, Lana also paid homage to Elvis with her rendition of the standard “Unchained Melody” on this past week’s Christmas At Graceland holiday special. This is to say, she’s about to aptly soundtrack many a wistful posts about coming home this holiday season with gifts for a certain kind of listener who has a strong parasocial relationship with alternative pop songwriting icons.

Lana Del Rey’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads” single is available now on Interscope / Polydor Records.
