“Chrimson and Chrome”, our first impression of Friko (and one of many promising young rock bands to come out of the burgeoning Chicago scene lately alongside the likes of Horsegirl, Lifeguard, and Cruel,) heard lead vocalist and guitarist Niko Kapetan whelmed by a feeling of being very over life before it really had even begun. “Crashing Through”, the first proper single from he and drummer Bailey Minzenberger’s debut full-length, Where we’ve been, where we go from here, is the subsequent reaction to those worries, and one in which the pair are beginning to explore a promising catharsis in turning these explosive bursts into indie rock ‘n quarter life crises that mediates the age gap between Pavement and Black Country, New Road. “I haven’t said what I mean to say / Haven’t done what I mean to do / ‘Cause every coward looks away / From all the light crashing,” Kapetan exclaims. Right then and there, electricity strikes before him. If that’s not a sign that there’s still time, then I don’t know what is…
