The unavoidable fact that emotions can be ugly and life is guaranteed to get messy is a given. Laura Jane Grace gets that’s the stuff that makes for crafting the perfect kind of punk song where it all unravels through electricity and a surge to your cortex. “Hole In My Head”, the latest single and title track from Grace’s just-announced solo effort, is a direct hit to negative thinking patterns that aim to undo you. In order to get there, she rages through the stages of apathy avoidance through a fast charge of gritty punk-pop and a lived wisdom anthem. “You can try to outrun all the pain you come from / That would be a real mistake / You could learn to feel less,” she warns. “That would be a real bore / Baby, dream your dream.” Heed Grace’s advice. Just because everything around you is on the brink of collapse, let your head be the conduit that keeps you from exploding.
