mo dotti – “for anyone and you” / “late august early september”

The churn of new shoegaze overflowing through the independent rock scene’s musical veins these days is a bevy, but among the best to really make it pop from the surface out are the under-heralding Los Angeles four-piece mo dotti, who last year pressed melody in moving colors through the serotonin rush of it all with their second EP, guided imagery, on the scene’s underground hotboxed hotbed, Smoking Room. “For Anyone And You” and “Late August Early September”, a newly released double A-side single offers a first glimpse into their forthcoming debut full-length, and more promise to the form. Recorded self recorded by the band’s own drummer Andrew Mackalvie and master by Mark Gardener of shoegaze stalwarts, Ride, each hear the band further coming into a rich, dream-texturized bluff in their sound from opposite corners — the former, a swirling, psychedelic daze, and the latter, the afterhaze of it all — with drums rumbling beyond its texturized guitar channels into the ether, and as always, vocalist Gina Negrini being the saccharine pulling earth and sky together.

mo dotti’s “for anyone and you” single is available now.
