Throughout the shape-shifting in the dark Chelsea Wolfe has undergone across her career arch, never has she sounded as violent as she does on “Whispers In The Echo Chamber”. The latest preview from her Dave Sitek-producer seventh studio effort, She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She, hears the Los Angeles songwriter fully committing herself to a maximalist approach to her heavy, spiritually-bound sound in the crosshairs of industrial fissures and metal buzz saw blades, as Wolfe sees herself from the outside inside the void, and sets out to evolve once more. “But you only know the one I’ve been / I’ve shed a thousand skins since then / A curse upon the monster of more / That shit does not define me anymore,” she whispers in the listen’s reprieve from its chamber pressure. The moment it lets up, however, she tears through metaphorical flesh once more. “I’m done / Cut the chords / Cut ties / To yours.”
