If beating the living shit out of someone with words was set to song, then “This Note Is Useless” would be it. The latest single from Manchester sibling punk duo SLAP RASH’s forthcoming EP, Catherine Special, pulls many punches, smacks the cheek with its whole hand, and bangs heads together hard in one fell swoop without lifting a finger — instead, in an onslaught of words and sonic friction. For Amelia Lloyd, every single act of artful violence is a necessary to means of vengeance. “I hate how I wait for you,” she stares down repeatedly in one of the more tempered moments of the very unnerved listen. Those moments, however, only further pressurize she and brother Huw’s turvy noise-rock where grating basslines against the electrical wires blows its final fuse. “You ignore!,” Amelia shouts. Until you can’t any along.
