Full of Hell & Nothing – “Spend the Grace”

With the advent of their forthcoming collaborative effort, Full of Hell and Nothing dare to test the limitations of heaviness in all degrees when their respective worlds — one born out of scummy powerviolence and grindcore, and the other, a lead balloon in the shoegaze atmosphere — intersect on When No Birds Sang. There’s a sense that the two bands know of the potential this creates, as if they’ve discovered how to disrupt the god particle upon joining forces of sonic matter on its first preview, “Spend the Grace”, with the listen deepening a contrast within their selves to instead find the volatility in using stillness to their advantage. Errant off-tuned pedal effects and Domenic Palermo’s muted frame predicates the oncoming collision, and it does happen in an epic climb that rips all peace apart by way of Dylan Walker’s hellion growls and a mass of energy. It inevitably leaves chaos in its wake — just with a finesse to the heaviness born from their heaven-crashing compound.
