Artist: babyfang, the trio of guitarist Théo Mode, bassist 13th law, and drummer Canteen Killa
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Buzz: The face of rock music is changing in real time, or at least, for whatever time we have left in this world before it becomes uninhabitable in some shape or form. For all the noise of it, there’s an anthem to be heard rumbling from the fringe and breaking molds like those created babyfang. A cobweb intersecting itself in DIY spaces from the hip-hop and pop as well, the trio’s collective creative reset takes their outsider perspective and disregard for preexisting rules, and applies them without hesitation on their debut full-length, In The Face Of. It’s a promising entry point with an audacity to harness energy in the messiness — both in this existence and in their songwriting approach — in earnest while designing new ways to get there.
Sound: Self-professed “doompunks” for those who don’t mind indulging their DIY punk listening habits with a bit more gothic soul and trippy R&B grooves between the hardened crevices and blown out debris of life’s grit.
Recommended: “GOAN GO”, “ALL THEN”, and “CRUSH ME” off this year’s debut album, In The Face Of
babyface’s In The Face Of is available now on LucidHaus.
