Cupid & Psyche – “Spirit”

If “Angels On the Phone”, the lead single from Cupid & Psyche’s forthcoming debut album, Romantic Music, was an adoration of a love divine within our cosmic chaos, then “Spirit” runs further into blind faith within the duo’s gothically impassioned post-punk. The latest preview from the Abe Vigoda members’ new band does so in the shadows, lurking in a purgatory between the pure light of desire and lust’s coil wrapped around the soul. “Beg me to / Sing through the door / Of a life so far away / Asking what it’s for,” Michael Vidal aches in song. “If nothing else / Stops the earth for you / Ask me to be nothing else / What else would I do?” Truly, something greater has overtaken this human vessel, though it may not be entirely of good virtue in its motives…
