A desire to exorcise one’s personal demons oft consumed the narrative behind Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter’s song in the years preceding her under the moniker Lingua Ignota. “I WILL BE WITH YOU ALWAYS”, the second single from her new album as her rechristined given name, SAVED!, is an acknowledgement that perhaps one not need to fully purge that which causes pain, for it is a part of us that will live . Perhaps to see these demons as they are in all their wicked ways is to take back control of our ability to forgive ourselves, which Hayter’s tongue sing of through her singular rendering of the old tyme liturgical hymnal, distressed to the matchings of a well-worn wooden pew. “And so, sinner friend, lay your burdens down / The night is not yours alone to carry / Take my hand, for in the dark I see you / And I will speak unto you what was spoke unto me,” she preaches. “I will always be with you / I will be with you always.” This is to say let your demons be and you will be free.
