Big Thief – “Born For Loving You”

Hearing Big Thief reinvent the wheel of folk-tinged indie rock time and time again has yet to cease being a mesmerizing experience, but so are these moments when the band lets loose, gets in their simplest feels, and delivers something like their latest single, “Born For Loving You”. This one blankets itself as one of the more pop-laden listens in the band’s always-fashion-forward artistic wardrobe, and it’s threads are universal at that, with Adrianne Lenker being her most unabashedly lovey-dovey (albeit, in her own blunt sense) singing out, “From the first kiss to the first fuck / I don’t think it’s just good luck / Take me to the valley or a pickup truck / Show me a thing or two.” Steered there by guitarist Buck Meek’s flickering headlights alongside drummer James Krivchenia and bassist Max Oleartchik relaxed foot on the pedal and groove, Big Thief are all butterflies and sweet spots in this soft and tender pocket.

Big Thief’s “Vampire Empire” b/w “Born for Loving You” 7″ single will be released October 20th on 4AD.
