Among the most rewarding aspects of listening to Rachel Brown’s songcraft as Thanks for Coming is hearing them challenge themselves to write music which sounds so much more simpler in comparison to the experimental-pop they create with Nate Amos as Water From Your Eyes. By their own admission, “Unlimited Love” — the second single from Thanks for Coming’s new EP, What is My Capacity to Love? — gets its name from a Red Hot Chili Peppers album of the same name, and given that band’s affinity for condensing psychedelic, jock-rock alternative rock down into an easily digestible sweet pill as well, it’s not far fetched to imagine Brown took note of that energy here. The listen is built around an undemanding indie pop chord progression as Brown commits themselves vocally to channeling their inner Kiedis with sung-spoken lyrics running on, fully tapped into the universe and its broad spectrum of love. “No, I don’t speak the language / But I read the signs / And they’re telling me / Yelling at me / It’s my life / Yeah, it’s my life / It’s really mine / But what if I want to be level? / What if I want someone special?” Just because the vibes rest right on the surface doesn’t mean they aren’t deep…
