“Hard to Please”, as it originally existed when it was formed into the SPELLLING universe as a single in 2018, was a space pop spectacle that held an enigmatic allure to it. Taking form within Chrystia Cabral and her cast of collaborators’ new phase on her imminent reimagination album, SPELLLING & the Mystery School, makes you wonder no more what lies far out there in the sky of SPELLLING’s desires. Though the instrumentation relies on traditional composition rather than synthetic sounds, the emotions that bloom from Cabral’s breath and the listen’s accompanying groove take on a more earthen feel. Sure, everything is made up of stars, but here, SPELLLING and company bring the song’s hard-earned lust to life.
