Subsonic Eye – “J-O-B”

Capitalism is depriving us all of our abilities to enjoy the short amount time we have on this planet. It gets in the way of being able to pursue and perfect your actual passions in a way where you could give back more to the world if it weren’t for that 9-5. The free time you do have almost always isn’t always enough to invest in forming new meaningful relationships that benefit your personal life (queue the rise in unhappy relationships and absentee parental figures). Whatever’s left from that balance, you get less than an ideal amount of sleep, which sucks for your health. “J-O-B”, the second single from Subsonic Eye’s new album, All Around You, is tired of the motions even if the Singapore noise-pop rockers sweeten the sounds of the grind through their constant centripetal whirr. “I can’t dedicate / All my efforts to this lifestyle / Make it make sense, does it make sense? / But I’m here,” resigns vocalist Nur Wahidah into the listen’s daze. “I can’t decide what would make me a better person / A better citizen / A better student / A better friend.” Not being worn down daily by what it takes to survive these days would be a good start…
