In collaboration with Håvard Volden, Jenny Hval began to examine the sum of the layers within the conscious through an electronic canvas on the duo’s 2021 debut full-length, Menneskekollektivet. What’s been among one of the more evident points of curiosity is that in the exploration of the abstract of this existence, Hval and Volden have created something tangible from it in their experimental pop shape-shifting. With “With the Other Hand”, the latest single from Lost Girls’ sophomore follow-up, Selvutsletter, the pair are not any closer to creating concrete matter as lyrics are left to beheld to interpretation by its listener, yet the manner in which Hval sets the stage for something familiar and strange from its cascading sparks of synth-folk casts radiance from the shadows as if to astral project the awareness of the body and mind in two places at once. “I’ve got you / And I hold your hand,” she sings at one point. Wherever this one takes you, Lost Girls make it possible to defy dimension.
Lost Girls’ Selvutsletter will be released October 20th on Smalltown Supersound.
