Nighdrator – “Frigid”

MSPaint warned us that Hattiesburg was happening, and in hearing Nighdrator, it’s impossible not to be consumed by that thought wholly. “Frigid”, the latest single from vocalist Emma Fruit, guitarist Stephen Curley, bassist Jonathan Lee Parks, and drummer and keyist Nick Panella makes that an inevitable, very much living up to the band’s self-descriptor of being “loud, post apocalyptic, dark, dream gaze.” In a timeline where so many artists crank up the Decibles and drench layers upon layers of feedback merely to make a rattling impression, there’s something much more sinister lurking within Nighdrator’s read on the style’s temperature. This is a nightmarish form on dreamy modern heavygaze decay where Fruit’s spectral vocals are spellbinding as the band pushes you deep into the frozen ethereal of the void. While some may attempt to mirror the abyss by skimming its surface, Nighdrator go beyond staring at it. They become it, and in turn, so do you.

Nighdrator’s “Frigid” single is available now.
