Fiddlehead – “Sleepyhead”

When you’re down hard, there’s a bad habit we have of looking forward to the next day because you thinking wishfully hope they will be better ones. Really, though, you’re wishing the day you’re in away, and all that’s doing is moving you one step closer to death without being able to enjoy the moment. Depression fucks you up like that in a no-win situation. “Sleepyhead”, the second single from Fiddlehead’s upcoming third full-length effort, Death is Nothing to Us, doesn’t attempt to gloss over the reality of that headspace, with Pat Flynn wracking his brain in its dark interior and the listen itself giving off one of the Boston melodic hardcore band’s most active charges from the friction of its internal monologue pushing off the days. “Sleep it all away to heaven / Sleep it all the way to hell,” Flynn shouts. Still, it’s not without acknowledging in spite of the weight that spending every moment like that is also a choice. “Sleep it all away, but know you’re not locked in a cell.”
