Shamir – “Crime”

“Oversized Sweater”, the first single from Shamir’s new album, Homo Anxietatum, sounded and even felt like a comfort fit in the way the prolific indie polymath wove alternative pop and rock textures seamlessly in a way that accentuated the strengths of his esoteric songwriting stitching skills. Never one to wear the same ‘fit more than once, however, the album’s latest accidental single “Crime” puts the focus back on Shamir’s bold sense of fashion choices. Somewhere a cross between dangerous, daring, and ultra modern with shades of sinister, the listen rides a wave of Brit indie rock and, in a round-about way, Paramore-esque post-punk influence into the streets. “I didn’t know what I was thinking,” its chorus crests over you with entrapment. It’s not a crime if it looks this good on the artist, though.

Shamir’s Homo Anxietatem will be released August 18th on Kill Rock Stars.
