Well into Koyo’s “Anthem”, vocalist Joey Chiaramonte shouts out the band’s hometown scene and puts an exclamation point on top of it. “You know It’s L-I-H-C forever / If you don’t get it, you can fall right off!” The Long Island quintet have been sewing these kind of heart-on-your-sleeve messages through their deeply melodic burst of emotive post-hardcore for a few years now, and it’s all been leading up to a defining moment like this here on the latest single from their forthcoming debut full-length, Would You Miss It? In their sonic rearview are the bands who helped pound in the groundwork before them such as the Movielife, Incendiary, and Glassjaw, but in that same heartbeat barreling off their chests, Koyo are continuing the lineage through own statement of purpose of community to full affect, or as Chiaramonte signals, “To the ones that identify / With the same fire in their eyes.” Simply put, if you know, you know, and if you don’t, then here’s the open invitation.
